Line-up for Alameda’s fourth of July parade starts tomorrow at 8am along Lincoln Avenue between Grand Ave and Park Street. The parade starts at 10am.

The annual Alameda 4th of July Parade bills itself as the second longest Independence Day parade in the country, with over 170 floats traversing a three mile route. Historically, local automobile dealerships on Park Street provided loaner convertibles for use in the parade by V.I.P.s, but as those dealerships have dried up, so have the loaners.

Critics of SunCal’s Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative have often been pejoratively, and mistakenly, labeled “anti-development” and needlessly distrustful of the “big bad developer.” But it’s coming to light, as SunCal tries to slink away from Alameda back to SoCal, that they duped even their most ardent sympathizers within Alameda. Perhaps now some of those who hurl these insults understand why Alameda residents deserve to be skeptical about developer promises.
