Maria Zanetti was a civilian crane operator at Naval Air Station Alameda for 25 years. She loaded cargo on military ships until an accumulation of back injuries from her work duties put her out of work and on Supplementary Security Income (SSI). She has applied for an exemption to Measure H and has been denied.
On Wednesday night at Alameda City Hall, the Alameda Point Task force reviewed SunCal and Calthorpe’s latest plans for the redevelopment of Alameda Point. At least, the three task force members that showed up.
Parents and children showed up at Washington Park yesterday to participate in a carnival sponsored by Justin Harrison, candidate for Alameda City Council.
Attendees enjoyed hot dogs and soda, and bounced in jumpers provided by the candidate.
This year’s Jamaica Association of Northern California’s Independence Celebration Dinner and Dance will be on Saturday, August 23rd, at 8:00pm at The Masonic Hall in Alameda, 2312 Alameda Avenue. Performances by St. Catherine’s Kidz-A-Kulcha, winners of Jamaica’s National Festival Competition. For details, see the JANC website.
Since SunCal’s August 7th meeting to discuss their vision for Alameda Point, wherein Peter Calthorpe presented a scheme for 6,000 housing units served by Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), Alameda residents have been climbing a sharp and fast learning curve on PRT.
